UNM has received the largest philanthropic gift from an individual or couple in its 135-year history. A $30 million commitment from Gail and Jim Ellis, a 1968 alumnus, will transform the University's business school into The James & Gail Ellis School of Business Leadership, expand opportunity for students, and strengthen New Mexico's economic future for generations to come.

Anderson Professor and UNM recognized in Information Systems Journal Rankings
UNM Anderson Distinguished Professor, Xin (Robert) Luo, Ph.D., was recently ranked No. 1 globally for his publications across the 11 Association for Information Systems (AIS) premier journals for 2023-2025 by AIS Research Rankings. Additionally, UNM was also ranked no. 6 by AIS Research Rankings for publications in these journals for the same timeframe. Together, these distinctions highlight the strength and impact of the innovative research produced by the Marketing, Information and Decision Sciences (MIDS) department at Anderson. Robert Luo This marks the second time Luo was ranked no. 1 for his publications, with the first being for 2022-2024. Luo’s research focuses on several areas within the digital economy, including digital platform ecosystems, online privacy protection, online review governance, and strategic information systems for decision making.
His work has appeared in several well-known Management Information Systems journals, including MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, and Journal of the Association for Information Systems. Luo’s most recent publication with peers, Shaobo Li, Xun Huang, Le Wang, and Yuwei Jiang, explores online help-seeking tendencies of users through business interfaces.
“These topics are increasingly important as digital technologies continue to reshape how organizations operate and how consumers interact with firms,” said Luo. “At this stage of my career, I am particularly excited to see how this line of research has developed and gained recognition within the field.”
UNM’s ranking as no. 6 places it among the top institutions in the information systems field, highlighting the strength and scholarly influence of UNM faculty.
“This distinction serves as a strong signal of the quality and prestige of a UNM education. It reflects a research-driven environment where faculty are not only analyzing current technological trends but also developing the theories and insights that shape the future of the digital economy,” said Luo. “Our MIDS-related programs benefit directly from this research strength. The curriculum is continuously informed by cutting-edge scholarship, allowing students to engage with the latest developments in areas such as digital platforms, cybersecurity, data analytics, and the human dimensions of technology adoption and governance.”
Luo has been a faculty member at Anderson since 2008, serving in various roles during his time. Currently, Luo is the Endowed Creative Enterprise Chair and an Endowed Dean’s Professor of Research Excellence. Prior to UNM, Luo was an assistant professor of Computer Information Systems at Virginia State University and received his doctorate and master’s degree from Mississippi State University.
