Andrew Norton, BBA in General Management

Originally from Stanwood, Washington, Andrew chose to attend UNM for its warm climate and strong student government program. His passion for leadership began early, shaped by years of involvement in student government.

“I was always class president or a leader in my high school and middle school because I love what leadership roles can be. I love serving people, it’s my favorite thing to do in the whole world, and I feel as though it’s my purpose” said Andrew.

After committing to UNM, Andrew quickly immersed himself in campus leadership, securing a role with ASUNM as the Speakers' Director for Student Special Events (SSE) even before his first semester began. From there, he steadily advanced through the organization, serving as Executive Director of SSE and, most recently, as ASUNM Student Body President.

Among his most meaningful experiences was competing in the Rainforest Pitch competition as a freshman, where he met instructors Rebecca Rodriguez and Dawson Jariwala — mentors who continue to guide him. He also takes pride in the work he and his peers accomplished within ASUNM, including helping secure nearly half a million dollars in security funding for UNM through the New Mexico State Legislature.

Following graduation, Andrew plans to pursue an MBA in organizational leadership and a degree of Juris Doctor, with the long-term goal of entering politics.

Michael Parrino, Master of Accounting

At the Anderson Convocation, the banner carrier honor is awarded to the undergraduate and graduate students with the highest GPA in their class. This year, Michael Parrino was selected as the graduate banner carrier — marking his second time receiving the distinction after earning the same recognition as an undergraduate in 2024.

Born and raised in Albuquerque, Michael earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in finance and accounting before continuing directly into the Master of Accounting program. Along the way, he received the Deloitte Foundation Accounting Scholarship and a scholarship from the New Mexico Society of CPAs, which allowed him to pursue his graduate degree fully funded.

Michael currently works as an audit and consulting senior accountant at SJT Group LLC, where he specializes in nonprofit, governmental and tribal auditing. He began with the firm as an intern during his undergraduate studies and steadily advanced into his current role.

“I really benefited from both working in accounting and studying accounting,” said Michael. “I definitely encourage students, especially those in undergrad, that if there is a field they are interested in, they should not be afraid to get out there, try it, and get their foot in the door.”

Following graduation, Michael plans to continue his work with SJT Group while preparing for the rigorous CPA licensing exams.

Daniela Palomino, BBA in Marketing

For Daniela Palomino, growth came from stepping outside her comfort zone. What began as a decision to enroll in a professional sales course at Anderson quickly turned into a defining part of her college experience.

Daniela, a first-generation college student originally from Lubbock, Texas, spent a significant portion of her life in Mexico before her family eventually settled in New Mexico. She began her academic journey at Central New Mexico Community College and later transferred to UNM.

“I told myself that in my senior year, I would challenge myself and be comfortable with being uncomfortable,” said Daniela. “I decided to join a competition and it was the Fastenal National Sales Invitational.”

Daniela went on to become a top-performing competitor at the Fastenal National Sales Invitational, opening the door to additional competitions through the Anderson Sales Center. Through these experiences, she found inspiration in the program’s emphasis on building genuine human connections through professional selling and the advanced sales class.

She now encourages other students to embrace every opportunity that comes their way. For Daniela, saying yes led to meaningful connections, hands-on experience, and significant personal and professional growth — preparing her for the next step in her career.

After graduation, Daniela will begin her role as a management trainee at Cintas.

The Anderson Spring Convocation will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at 4 p.m. at the University Arena, “The Pit.”
