Prepare for CPA Certification
Offering tracks for students with or without an accounting background, Anderson's 30-hour Master of Accounting (MACCT) will prepare you to be an expert in such areas as taxation, information assurance, auditing, finance, fraud and managerial accounting.
Individualized attention from MACCT staff and professors will help you develop the skills and analytical thinking required to pursue CPA certification or certified accounting management — and to become a leader in your field.

Advanced Track
- For students with accounting backgrounds
- Online and on-campus attendance options available
- 30 credit hours
The MACCT Advanced Track is for those with a BBA in accounting from a regionally accredited institution. This track prepares students to be experts in taxation, information assurance, auditing, finance, fraud and managerial accounting.
The MACCT Advanced track can be completed primarily online by taking the following courses:
- Governmental and Not-for-Profit Accounting
- Law for Accountants
- Seminar: Personal Tax Planning
- Tax Research, Procedure, Compliance and Practice
- Corporate Tax
- Partnership & LLC
- Real Estate Tax
- Financial Accounting III (online starting Fall 2026)
- Professional Writing for Accountants (online starting Spring 2027)
- Accounting Data Analytics (online starting Spring 2027)
Professional Track
- For students without accounting backgrounds
- 30-36 credit hours
- On-campus evening courses from 5:30 - 8 p.m.
The MACCT Professional Concentration Track is designed for individuals with a non-accounting undergraduate degree who wish to enter public accounting as a certified professional. Students may be required to take 6 credit hours of introductory accounting coursework in addition to the MACCT curriculum. Coursework includes:

Admission Requirements
The Anderson School of Management uses a holistic admissions process. We consider many factors, including GPA, work experience, program alignment, prerequisite coursework, and test scores to make an admission decision. All applicants are required to demonstrate proof of an earned bachelor's degree prior to applying.
4+1 Accounting Program
The 4+1 Accounting Program enables UNM students to begin MACCT studies early, guaranteeing admission upon completion of the undergraduate degree and reducing the graduate degree's cost. Students admitted to this program will gain early admission to the MACCT, take graduate level courses in their senior year, earn a bachelor's degree and finish the MACCT degree one year later.
Suggested Timeline
- For the first three years of university studies, you will pursue your bachelor's degree requirements, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- During the second semester of the third year of academic work, you will apply for admission to the MACCT program in the Anderson School.
- In the fourth year of academic work, you will begin the first year of the MACCT program, completing up to 9 credits whie completing the remaining requirements for your bachelor's degree.
- In the fifth year of study, you will complete the remaining 21 credit hours in the MACCT program.
Scholarships are available for students interested in pursuing a master's program in accounting.
